Interpretation
NThe cat quickly flicks its tongue across its nose, possibly several times in a row. This is one of the most common calming signals — similar to humans biting their lip or wringing their hands when nervous. ose-licking keeps the nose moist (enhancing scent), but also gives the cat a brief “pause” to process stress. If your cat starts licking its nose frequently while being petted, it may be uncomfortable or anxious.
How to respond
Slow down or pause — give the cat room to adjust.
