Interpretation
BThe cat carries caught prey (mice, birds, bugs, sometimes toys) to you and drops it at your feet, possibly meowing at you. The cat is taking care of you in its own way — it sees you're terrible at hunting (you can't even catch a mouse), so it decides to “feed” you. Mother cats teach kittens to hunt this way, so in a sense, it's treating you as a big kitten needing care. As unsettling as this “gift” may be, understand it's the highest compliment a cat can give.
How to respond
Don't scold it! Say thanks softly, and discreetly dispose of the prey. Scolding confuses it — it's just doing its family duty.
